, ,

it starts with each person

This beautiful outstanding world.. it is incomprehensible imagining all the ugly things so many humans do to it, or even passively do by supporting others' insanity and destruction. When really all we all should do is recognize our part of the whole and learn to preserve, care, respect.

Nahkohe Parayno, or Nahko as he's more often called, is a sixth generation Apache/Mohawk (and part Puerto Rican and Phillipino), and he's the founding member of Nahko and Medicine for the people. His emotional music - while uplifting in one perspective, haunting in another - makes you think of the cruel history of the ingenious people of America.

I know that most kids in the US aren't taught the real tales of the native Indians, what actually happened to them. Or who they were. What they stood for and what good we can learn from their existence and ancient wisdom. Much of the valuable knowledge they possessed, their approach to living sustainably and having respect for mother earth. Our fragile planet which is a living entity that must be cared for and preserved for future generations - those ideas which modern America lack, today. The whole concept of ecological values and the importance of nurturing relationships in communities by sharing, not stealing. Giving, not taking.

We often give credit and admiration to Christopher Columbus for having discovered and arrived in the Americas in 1492. But from another perspective, that day of joyous landfall for one, meant the beginning of the end for another. It was the start of a long road of persecution and genocide of Native Americans, the original people of America. Columbus shouldn't be blamed for it all, British colonists and European settlers made sure to bring the barbaric tradition forward and even until today, the Indians are met with judgement, racism and intolerance. Now only comprising 1.7% of the population, most of them mixed-race.

By conservative estimates, the population of the United states prior to European contact was greater than 12 million. Four centuries later, the count was reduced by 95% to 237.000. If you just stop what you're doing and take a proper moment to think about that for a while... about all of value and beauty that is lost and gone. For the sake of expanding selflessly. How can human beings let such a thing happen to another? Keep asking yourself, because it still happen today. Every second, with every breath you take, another life on this relatively small world is taken because of the exact same reasons. Greed, selfishness and hunger for power.

While you may not be able to physically stop the horror and madness of the psychotic individuals who maintain this atrocious world order, you can do your best to live by example. By acknowledging truth, not avoiding it. By sending out good vibrations and meditating for peace and kindness. Avoiding all and everyone that hurt others, in any which little way around you in your daily life. Stop supporting the propaganda that favors a few by switching off the corrupt news for good. Seek within rather than looking for acceptance, admiration and validation from the outside. And try to live each day by giving more than what you expect from others. It is the small steps that bring things forward. Don't forget that you were born who you are not by choice, but by fate or destiny. You could have been any other person not as fortunate, and maybe you once were.
